Still in his late twenties, Jon Mapp has already carved out a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting bassists. His creative playing blends jazz improvisation with soul sensibility, and an inventive use of techniques and electronica-inspired effects, lending energy and excitement to the music. Based in London, Mapp is the bassist for the high-energy soul man Myles Sanko, and can be heard on the latest release Just Being Me (2016) and on tour around the world with Myles.
Previously, he has worked with artists as diverse as Polish folk-jazz artist Agata Kubiak, Moroccan R&B singer Noraay’s Creation Project and neo-soul singer Verushka, as well releasing his own solo record The World Will End With a Bang. As well as performing with Myles, he is currently writing new music for heavy electronica-jazz group Vill Veeks and playing in young Latvian pianist Alina Bistricka’s Jazz Cat Trio.
“Mapp is expanding the sound of the bass guitar for the twenty first century”
“Technically Jon’s playing is extremely dexterous and fluid, but never flashy or verbose”
